Our Mentors

Rich Varville has been captivated by the magic of movies for as long as he can remember. His passion for storytelling on screen was ignited at just 10 years old when he saw Star Wars in theaters—without parental supervision—an experience that left a lasting impression. Growing up on an Air Force base in Denver, Colorado, he marveled at the possibilities that imagination and creativity could achieve.Though filmmaking would later become his calling, Rich's early years were consumed by a love for music. At 14, he picked up a guitar and became obsessed with mastering the instrument. By 16, he was performing on stage with his band, embracing the excitement of live performance. This passion led him to explore audio production, eventually opening his first recording studio at 27. Producing albums and hearing his work on the radio were thrilling milestones, but Rich's creative ambitions pushed him further. The turning point came when a band he performed with needed a music video. “I said, ‘I can do that,’” Rich recalls, despite initial skepticism from his bandmates. That first project wasn't just a standard performance video—it was a short film interwoven with music, and it marked the beginning of a new chapter. Soon, other bands sought Rich out for similarly cinematic music videos, and after creating more than 20 videos, many featuring storylines and set designs, he was ready to take on filmmaking full-time.Rich’s debut short film, a Western, may have been a modest effort, but it solidified his passion for storytelling. Over the last decade, he has transitioned into directing and producing feature films, bringing more than 30 years of entertainment experience to his work.“Sure, there have been awards along the way,” Rich says, “but what truly drives me is the joy of creating a story and turning it into something that can be seen on the big screen and enjoyed by audiences.”Today, Rich is the owner of RSVP FILMS LLC, a full-service production company based in San Diego, California. As a director, he is known for his expertise in project management, cinematography, editing, and sound design. Rich approaches every project with the same passion he felt as a child first discovering the power of cinema.
“I’ve come full circle,” he says, “and I’m still just a kid in love with movies.”

Jeff Troeber is an experienced video creator, writer and storyteller with over 30 years experience in the technology, film, and broadcasting industries. Jeff started out in radio and television as an award winning broadcast journalist.
He moved into the technology industry when he discovered he could combine his writing and production skills with his curosity about how technology worked to share that knowledge with others.
Currently Jeff does in-house production at We Treat. LLC, where he crafts compelling video content to highlight stories about the company and clients.
Jeff's happy place is on set, so naturally his office is a studio, though he is just as happy on location or on a film set. He has been part of the 48HFP and Four Points Film Project with various teams, including the Amalgamated Grommets. Outside of work, you may find him on a film set, running streaming, or creating videos for non-profit organizations.
His multifaceted background includes roles as a writer, producer, director, AD, cinematographer, gaffer, audio engineer, editor, and motion graphics. Jeff also uses his training and background in radio to do voice overs.
Jeff has served in multiple roles for the Board of Directors for San Diego Media Pros.
