Spring has sprung, or at least it is trying to do so.

Mentor Hour Returns at April Sync Up

While the year San Diego Media Pros began could be debated (did we start with the name change? Did we begin as an MCA-I chapter?) what we can all agree on is our origins began FAR later than that of the site of next mixer, San Diego Brewing Company.

The original manufacturing facility known as San Diego Brewing Co® opened in 1896 with much fanfare and was the largest manufacturing enterprise in the county. The company delivered their product to all parts of the city and county in bottles or in barrels. Their beers were said to "sparkle like nectar." Sadly the company was removed from 32nd Street by the Navy in 1942 and replaced by a base for the Pacific Fleet.

Today the new San Diego Brewing Co® which opened in 1993 hopes to carry on the tradition that was started so long ago. While SDBC, located at the foot of Allied Gardens, has just completed a remodel, their beverage selection remains true to their origins.

And, our Mentor Hour was such a success in February, we're doing it again! This time, we invited Jeff Fox, marketing expert from our March 27 event on branding and marketing for freelancers and small media businesses, Nicole Franco, producer, production designer and actor, and Time Ends, producer, music composer, sound designer and co-owner of Project Conclusion Company

6:00pm:  Announcements, introductions and group photo

6:30 - 7:30 pm:  Mentor Hour

8:00pm (or later):  Wrap

When you check in at the event, let us know if you’d like to be part of Mentor Hour.

Thanks to February’s mentors, DJ Summit, art director and motion designer of Summitt Filmworks; Jane Hare, producer, director, and writer of Everon Media; Eric Addison, owner of 100 Acre Films and who stopped by to answer questions and talk about their varied experience in the media production business.

Come join us on Tuesday, April 9th, for another round of Mentor Hour and say hello to friends old and new. For Sync Up dates for the rest of 2024, see the SDMP homepage.

Mentor Hour Guests

Nicole Franco began her career three decades ago producing national television and radio campaigns for major advertising agencies in both LA and NYC. While working in NYC, she began a duel career as a film/TV actor and video game voice over performer.  She produced the independent narrative feature “To Save A Life,” distributed theatrically nationwide through Samuel Goldwyn Films, currently on digital streaming platforms, shocking industry insiders by ranking fifth in per-screen averages just behind several large studio films including “Avatar”, “Legion”, and “Book of Eli” earning a then rare endorsement by the LA Times. A resident of San Diego for over 20 years, she enjoys directing audio drama series for Wise King Media, coaching VO, consulting and casting for various film and voice projects.

Jeff Fox is a digital marketing expert who has helped dozens of brands tell their story through compelling content, SEO, social media, and advertising at his company Star Fox Media. As the President of Princebury Productions & Media and Producer, Jeff has been helping filmmakers turn their scripts and film concepts into profitable business ideas for over 10 years. During his tenure at Princebury, Jeff was instrumental in creating and structuring their upcoming $100M Film Fund, designed to bring a pipeline of message-based content to market. Jeff received his Bachelor of Business Administration Cum Laude from the University of San Diego.

Time Ends, is a local producer, music composer, sound designer, advocate and human rights defender. He is the co-owner of Project Conclusion Company (PCC) where he works specifically with adults with intellectual disabilities and underrepresented communities in the entertainment industry.
