NOTE: The date has been changed to Tuesday October 10!
Every screenplay starts with the story: a new world created by a writer who develops characters in a defined environment, with structure and stakes. And if you’ve ever been at the keyboard trying to create a script, you know it’s a craft.
Screenwriters John Wierick (Hallmark, made-for-TV) and Michael A. Ross (Netflix, CBS, ABC) both have long careers writing for feature films, made-for-TV movies, streaming, network television shows and more. On THURSDAY, AUGUST 10 at Vibras Studio in Oceanside, they will talk about their own unique journeys - Michael in episodic TV and streaming and John in long-form writing.
NOTE: We are aware that the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA are on strike. As part of our discussion, we will cover why the WGA is striking and what is at stake as part of negotiations. We are approaching this event knowing what we can and can’t talk about (no pitches, no promotion.)

John Wierick has written for television and film since 1989. Recent projects include A Godwink Christmas: Miracle of Love (Hallmark), and other rom-coms including Memories of Christmas and A Time to Dance. Twice he’s been nominated for the Humanitas Prize (Crossed Over, starring Diane Keaton and Life Interrupted, starring Lea Thompson), and in 2003, he received the prestigious Paul Selvin Award from the Writers Guild of America for the Emmy-winning docudrama The Matthew Shepard Story (starring Stockard Channing and Sam Waterston). John is married to his high-school sweetheart, Shelley, and they have two children, Rachel and Mason. John’s IMDb
Michael A. Ross has 31-year career as writer and producer including 12 streaming and television series. His latest show is Unstable starring Rob Lowe currently on Netflix. Other shows include Santa Clarita Diet with Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant (Netflix), Rules of Engagement (CBS), Better off Ted (ABC) and Andy Richter Controls the Universe (Fox). Michael began his career as an actor, playing the role of Ché in Evita and The Rum Tum Tugger in CATS, both at The Shubert Theater in Los Angeles, as well as guest starring on television shows. But during a fallow period, his wife (bless her) suggested he try writing. In addition, he wrote the book for the musical Songs from the Tall Grass which premiered at Ford’s Theater in Washington D.C. Michael’s IMDb
